Two pundits disagree on Coventry City vs Manchester United predictions
This weekend’s FA Cup semi-final between Manchester United and Coventry City is anticipated by Chris Sutton and Harry Redknapp to be a close match.
This Sunday afternoon at Wembley, Erik ten Hag’s team takes on the Championship promotion contenders in what could be United’s final opportunity to win a trophy this season following their early elimination from the League Cup and Champions League.
But the Sky Blues, who made a stunning comeback against Wolverhampton Wanderers in last month’s quarterfinal, will be aiming for their first FA Cup final appearance since 1987 and have realistic expectations of eliminating United following a run of subpar games at Old Trafford in recent weeks.
This Sunday at Wembley, Sutton thinks Mark Robins will defeat his old team. “Coventry are not in the greatest form in the Championship, with three defeats in their past four games, but I am a romantic at heart and I believe in fairytales too,” he wrote in his BBC Sport predictions column. The sky is predicting that Sky Blues manager Mark Robins will prevail in this matchup against his old team.
“I believe my former Norwich teammate will move Erik ten Hag to the departure door. He memorably scored an FA Cup third-round winner for Manchester United in 1990, saving Sir Alex Ferguson’s job.
“On social media, some United supporters become really irate anytime I forecast that they will lose.
So allow me to daydream for a moment. What a day it would be for Coventry if they win; I have wonderful memories of the 1987 FA Cup final, when Keith Houchen’s diving header helped Coventry overcome Tottenham. Manchester United 2-1 Coventry City.
On the other hand, Redknapp anticipates that Ten Hag’s team will win on Sunday afternoon and secure their spot in next month’s final, but he also says it won’t be easy for the Reds.
He wrote the following while previewing the match for BetVictor: “I’m excited for this one; it’s nice to see Coventry back at Wembley in a major game. What a game that was in the 1987 final versus Tottenham, I can still clearly recall!
They’ve had a successful campaign, but
This is what United’s season is all about; it’s huge for both Erik ten Hag and the team. They haven’t performed well in recent weeks, so they will be under pressure to perform well here, as most people expect them to.
Remember that this is the FA Cup at Wembley, so unexpected things may happen, and Coventry is a respectable team. Don’t undervalue them in this match! Though I believe it may be closer than some anticipate, United will most likely be too strong for the Championship team.
Although opinions on Bruno Fernandes are divided, for the past month, he has likely been United’s finest player. His ambition and enthusiasm are undeniable; he never stops striving to make things happen.”
