Martin Keown believes Arsenal star Declan Rice has been mismanaged and asked to do ‘too much’ for England at Euro 2024.
Because of his role in the team, Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are able to find space between the lines while Kobbie Mainoo fills in as the box-to-box midfielder.
Declan Rice has been a consistent performer for England at the Euros.
Among the players participating in Euro 2024, Rice has made the most tackles (18), finished third in passes completed (449), and won the most possessions in the middle third (14).
But former England and Arsenal center-back Keown believes that if Rice were given a more forward role, Southgate would get even better performance out of him.
Keown even thinks that Rice has frequently been expected to perform “too much” for England throughout the competition this summer.
“Maybe [Thomas] Partey or Jorginho sits there [in a lone defensive midfield role] because he plays alongside [Martin Odegaard at Arsenal],” Keown said on talkSPORT.
