Barcelona ‘identify’ Man United, Arsenal-linked star as Joshua Kimmich alternative

Barcelona is apparently planning to challenge Manchester United and Arsenal for the services of a highly sought-after midfield player who has been suggested as a Joshua Kimmich replacement for Bayern Munich.

For a while now, the Catalan giants have been heavily linked to a transfer for Kimmich due to doubts over his long-term future in Bavaria.

The 29-year-old will shortly be starting the last year of his contract at the Allianz Arena. He has played for Bayern for the last nine seasons, making 390 games and taking home 20 titles.

According to a report from last month, Kimmich turned down a contract offer from Barcelona, and the Spanish team hasn’t been able to go forward with talks with the Germany international since.

It is now believed that Barcelona is looking into the transfer market for midfield options, under the management of Hansi Flick, the former manager of Kimmich’s previous Bayern and Germany team.

Barca designate Onana as a substitute for Kimmich.
Barcelona has reportedly lost interest in Kimmich, despite Bayern’s apparent willingness to let go of the midfield player, according to Mundo Deportivo.

aThe three Premier League teams—Manchester City, Liverpool, and Arsenal—may compete for Kimmich’s signature as a result of Barca’s decision to withdraw from the competition for the player, who is reportedly worth between €30 million and €40 million.

According to the source, the Catalan giants will now focus on Mikel Merino of Real Sociedad and Amadou Onana of Everton, but they will probably have fierce competition from Arsenal, Manchester United, and Bayern for the former.

According to a recent source, Bayern entered the competition for Onana after becoming dissatisfied with their efforts to get top target Joao.

Could Barca’s financial problems limit their ability to make transfers?
Barcelona is reportedly interested in Onana at a time when the club’s financial woes have raised doubts about the future of several first-team players, most notably midfielder Ilkay Gundogan.

Joan Laporta, the president of Barca, is eager to bolster Flick’s starting lineup for the upcoming campaign, but La Liga’s new 1:1 spending cap regulation only permits them to spend €1 for each €1 they recover this summer.

Due to this restriction, Barca will not be able to spend freely this summer and may struggle to pay Onana’s £50 million asking price unless they trade first-team players.

Despite having three more years left on his contract, Onana is anticipated to leave Everton this summer due to their financial difficulties.
