Leeds finally make Elland Road breakthrough two decades on from heartbreaking move

For the first time in twenty years, Leeds United is officially the entire owner of Elland Road.
Leeds has called the famous stadium home since 1919, but amid a period of financial hardship for the team, it was sold off in 2004—the year they were demoted from the Premier League.
The stadium’s owners, 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC, are now in complete control once more.
“We are delighted to announce Leeds United Football Club Limited is now the sole owner of Elland Road Limited,” the team said in a statement.
“The team has called Elland Road Stadium home since 1919, but it was sold in 2004 while it was having financial difficulties.
“Aser Group company Greenfield Investment Pte Ltd acquired Elland Road in 2017.”
After the establishment of a new business, Elland Road Limited became the stadium’s owner in December 2020.
“Eland Road Limited and Leeds United Football Club Limited came under the complete management of 49ers Enterprises Global Football Group LLC in July 2023.
Leeds United Football Club Limited acquired control of Elland Road Limited on March 27, 2024. With this deal, Elland Road Stadium regains complete ownership of the team for the first time since 2004.”
Elland Road has been officially recognized by Leeds City Council as an Asset of Community Value, having been added to the list subsequent to an application made by the Leeds United Supporters’ Trust.
The stadium was fully capitalized in March 2024 and is valued at £26.2 million as a fixed asset, according to the BBC.
“While this may seem like only a subtle change in corporate structure, I know that our supporters will understand its broader significance in signalling our ownership’s intent that Leeds United and Elland Road should always be inextricably bound,” stated Angus Kinnear, CEO of Leeds, in a statement.
