Ivar, who had lately been working on “WWE NXT,” was sidelined by WWE on Tuesday’s edition of “NXT” due to an injury, and the company confirmed on Thursday that he would be out indefinitely. Ivar acknowledged on Friday that he was not just gravely injured but also doubting his ability to continue competing in wrestling, despite the fact that at least one report questioned the veracity of the injuries.

Dave Meltzer stated in The Wrestling Observer Newsletter on Friday morning that Ivar was merely receiving time off due to “nothing serious” injuries. Fightful Select swiftly shot that down, disputing Meltzer’s assertion and asserting that ever since Ivar underwent double fusion neck surgery in 2020—his Viking Raiders tag team partner Erik also underwent neck fusion surgery in 2023, raising doubts about his own wrestling future—he has been wrestling with an eye toward retiring.

In his “Daily Update” segment later on Friday, Meltzer stated that Ivar’s injury “is more serious than we were first led to believe.” This week’s Observer hasn’t corrected anything as of yet, but the digital version has eliminated any reference to Ivar’s injuries. Pro Wrestling Insider, on the other hand, published an article showcasing a post shared by the Andrews Sports Medicine X account on Thursday morning. The post included an image of Ivar beside Dr. Andrew Cordover along with the hashtag #VictoryOverInjury. “When a WWE talent heads there, it means surgery,” PWI reported. Erik’s surgery last year and Ivar’s prior procedure in 2020 were both carried out by Cordover.
Ivar has been a wrestler since 2001 and recently turned 40. When he and Erik (also known as Hanson and Rowe) began collaborating as War Machine in 2014, they became well-known in the Ring of Honor. Before joining WWE in 2018, they were the winners of the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Championship and the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions twice. They also won the “NXT” and “Raw” tag titles there.
